Oil palm tree
Originally from tropical Africa, the oil palm is cultivated mainly for its oil. The pulp of its fruits gives palm oil and its almonds are filled with palmist oil. Its cultivation is adapted to the mono-modal and bimodal agro-ecological zones of Cameroon. According to FAO, the deficit in Palm oil in Cameroon has already reached 16000 tonnes. There are three main types of oil palm that are distinguished by the thickness of the shell of their fruits. Today it is the hybrid seed tenera that is recommended in all plantations.
